Client Profile

After completing a JVS English class, Lifen Zhu was referred to the agency's Bridges to College program, which prepares adult learners to enter college-level certificate programs in the healthcare field. The China native had always hoped for a career in the healthcare industry, but didn't feel she could surmount the academic rigor of higher education.

Despite being insecure about her English proficiency, Lifen did very well in the 16-week program, proving her dedication through consistent attendance and diligent studying. The program taught her study skills and how to advocate for herself in the classroom, as well as helping her to increase her math and English skills enough to qualify for credit-bearing courses at Bunker Hill Community College.

Shortly after graduating from the program, Lifen enrolled full-time in Bunker Hill's Medical Assistant Certificate Program. Lifen is doing well, balancing four classes a semester and an internship, and looks forward to graduating with her certificate this May.
