JVS Funds Futures

Many low-income individuals in entrylevel jobs lack the education, skills, and experience to make a substantial move up the career ladder. To help solve this problem, JVS offers the Funding Futures Individual Development Account (IDA) program. IDAs allow individuals to build assests by saving income that is matched $2 for every $1 they save. Federal Assets for Independence and the United Way provide the matching funds to help low-income working adults save money towards a college education.

Culinary Arts Program Gives Back

In February, JVS’ Culinary Arts program participated in an event billed as “JVS Gives Back to Madison Park”. The event was a way for the staff and students to say thank-you to Madison Park High School for providing both the kitchen space and chef instructors for the Culinary Arts program.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Employment Specialist Helps Families Stay in Boston

With the costs of living in Boston rising, it has become increasingly diffi cult for those with a limited education to meet day-to-day expenses and support their families. JVS is addressing this problem by providing supplemental services for clients enrolled in its education programs. JVS hired an employment specialist to provide clients with career counseling and job readiness training.

2007 JVS Spring Gala

Michael Winter and Deborah Goldberg Co-Chaired the Spring Gala on May 10, 2007, where JVS celebrated the achievements of our outstanding corporate partner, Legal Sea Foods, led by Roger Berkowitz, and the remarkable clients who exemplify the importance of personal motivation, career support, and lifelong learning: Beatrice Claude, Christopher Dormevil, Dov Goldvasser, Erline Maceline, and the Legal Sea Foods Worksite English Class. Over 200 friends, supporters, and community leaders gathered to welcome Jerry Rubin as the JVS President and CEO and hear his vision for the agency.

Jewish Vocational Service Launches Hospitality Career Institute

Boston- Jewish Vocational Service (JVS), in partnership with the International Institute of Boston, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, the Mass Lodging Association, and nine other hospitality employers, have established the Hospitality Career Institute Program (HCI). This program is designed to meet the workforce development needs of the hospitality industry in the greater Boston region.
