We are very proud to share the JVS 2006 Annual Report. As JVS approaches seventy years of helping Boston area residents achieve economic success, we are poised to take on new challenges and opportunities.

This past year, JVS provided nearly 14,000 individuals with the education, training and services they need to succeed in jobs and careers, and partnered with dozens of employers, making us the premier workforce development organization in the region. The stories in this report portray a remarkable set of individuals, striving to climb the economic ladder and build better lives for themselves and their families. JVS is there every step of the way, as individuals gain the skills they need for their first job, or add to their skills and advance career ladders established by their employers.

In this report you will see the faces of:

  • Immigrants and refugees who left their homelands, some under duress, who are taking the first steps toward good jobs and careers;
  • People with disabilities who were able to secure gainful employment through ongoing coaching and support;
  • Jewish professionals, who have found new directions and careers during transitional phases of their lives;
  • Single mothers, employed in entry-level jobs who have advanced to better paying, higher level jobs; and
  • Employers who are investing in their entry-level employees and supporting career opportunities.

Through our Center for Careers and Lifelong Learning, we continue our commitment to support families over the long term toward financial independence. Over the past year we have begun to take the work of the Center to a new level through our Partnerships for Careers and Learning Program which is building deep partnerships with employers in key industries such as health care and hospitality. These partnerships allow individuals to get into good jobs with career paths, and then receive the education, training and assistance they need on the job, delivered by JVS and supported by their employer.
