JVS and the Boston Center for Adult Education Join Together For A Future of Economic Opportunity

We are thrilled to announce that Jewish Vocational Service (JVS), and the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) are joining together to support economic opportunity for Boston area low-income workers, immigrants and others with obstacles to economic success.  By combining BCAE and JVS, the legacy, Board talent, and resources of BCAE will enable JVS to expand its capacity to provide high-quality, innovative adult education, training and employment services to thousands of Massachusetts’ residents well into the future.

At a time when economic and racial inequities are painfully evident to all, this partnership of two venerable Boston organizations brings light and hope to a challenging landscape.

In reflecting on their respective histories and missions, JVS and BCAE leadership have come to believe that the combination of their resources and interests would be instrumental in “moving the needle,” propelling JVS programming and participants to the next generation of economic opportunities. Through this combination, both Boards believe that their missions will be enhanced, leveraging program advancement and successful participant outcomes in important and impactful ways.
This combination will create the JVS board restricted BOOST Fund under the JVS Opportunity Fund umbrella. Starting with approximately $3M, the BOOST Fund will support innovative programs that may be underfunded or can create or leverage new opportunities. As such, it will be used to enhance existing JVS programs, to “seed” new training models, to innovate educational/vocational practice, to serve new communities, and to assist in times of extraordinary community need.
In addition to establishing the BOOST fund, this partnership allows planning to begin for creating a new, state-of-the art adult education and training center BCAE’s home at 122 Arlington Street. Located near public transportation in the heart of the Back Bay, this facility could serve as the home of new technology, innovative labs, and programming that reflects the growing industries and occupations in Boston that need to be opened up to a more diverse and economically challenged workforce.
