In Boston, we are fortunate to live near some of the best hospitals in the world. When Natacha and Max were starting their family in Haiti, they quickly realized that they would need first-class health care. After their child Ann Phatima was born, their doctor informed them that she had a serious health condition. His recommendation was that they come to the US if at all possible. It took a few years but they were patient and determined that their little girl would survive and thrive.
Upon arriving in the United States, Natacha and Max needed to quickly learn English and find work in order to support their family. They found their way to JVS, where they were connected with career coaches and enrolled in English classes. After Natacha completed her classes, Karina, her career coach, helped her enroll in a Pre-Employment joint training program offered by JVS and SkillWorks at Boston Children’s Hospital. She did such a good job in training that Children’s hired Natacha for her first part-time positon in their environmental services department. Within 1 week, her new employer was so impressed by her that she was immediately promoted to a full-time position. Max soon found a job too and is currently working as a store associate at Walmart.
Ann Phatima recently marked her 8th birthday, and the growing family welcomed son Isaac 2 years ago. Natacha and Max are so grateful that they were able to heed their doctor’s advice and secure the medical care that allowed them the chance to grow into the loving and lively family unit they dreamed of years ago.
