Barbara Garner, Vice President of Academic Services
Barbara leads a team that provides clients with the academic pathways and related wraparound services necessary for economic independence. These include college and career-focused English for speakers of other languages; a high school diploma offered via our partner, the Boston Public Schools Central Adult High School; and multiple Bridges to College pathways that provide students with the knowledge, academic skills, and guidance they need to succeed in college and on the job. Barbara began her career in the refugee education programs in Southeast Asia after the Vietnam War, managed the City of Boston’s adult basic education and refugee education programs, and led the statewide implementation of integrated job training and literacy programs before overseeing the National Center for the Study of Adult Literacy and Learning’s research to practice efforts.
Barbara holds a B.A. from Brown University and an M. Ed. from Harvard University.
