JVS Boston Names Sher Omerovic as Chief Program Officer

Jewish Vocational Service Boston (JVS Boston), one of New England’s largest providers of adult education and workforce development services, today announced the promotion of Sher Omerovic to Chief Program Officer.

Most recently JVS Boston’s senior vice president of programs, Omerovic oversaw JVS’s Health Care Skills Training Program, Career Path Programming, and Academic Services for several years. As Senior VP, Omerovic also oversaw JVS Boston’s Refugee Services, Disability Services, MassHire Downtown Boston. As a former refugee herself, Omerovic brings a unique passion to the work of JVS Boston. She said: “This work is extremely close to my heart. When I came to this country, organizations like JVS helped me understand how to navigate the education system and the world of workforce development. I can understand firsthand what many of our clients are experiencing, and that is what draws me to this work: my personal experience combined with my professional expertise.”

JVS Boston President and CEO Kira Khazatsky said: “JVS Boston’s top goals for the year ahead are to bring more untapped talent into the workforce to maximize our clients’ opportunities for fulfilling careers and meet employers needs for human talent, and to further strengthen training of staff throughout the agency to coach, serve, and inspire our clients. Sher’s deep experience in all these areas and her strong connections with government agencies, community partners, and adult-education providers made her the ideal choice to serve as JVS Boston’s Chief Program Officer.”

Omerovic first joined JVS Boston in 2014 and previously worked for human services organizations including the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, Fish Family Foundation, and Catholic Charities Boston. She holds a Master’s of Nonprofit Management with specialization in Project Management from Northeastern University, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Modern Languages from Beloit College.
