Why Conduct Workplace ESOL With JVS?
Best in Class
JVS Boston has decades of expertise in helping match employers and jobseekers – and specifically in ensuring that each new generation of worker is equipped with the workplace English language skills they need to succeed in their new jobs.
Customized Training
We understand that every employer is different, and that one-size-fits-all solutions are not the answer to the evolving needs of our economy. Our Workplace ESOL programs are tailored to each employers specific needs.
Driven By Results
We collaborate with employers across the Greater Boston area to ensure that everyone – English learners and local employers – are satisfied.
Thank you for work over the last year! Our team only has wonderful things to say about the class. All the students learned a lot and really enjoyed the classes. I especially appreciate that all the classes had a focus on customer service and using the materials relevant to work.

“I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to the JVS team for the outstanding work they have done throughout this past year. JVS’s dedication and hard work have led to a successful ESOL program that has significantly impacted our employees. The progress that our employees have made in improving their English language skills is truly remarkable, and it is all thanks to the efforts of the JVS team. Your commitment to excellence and your passion for helping others succeed has not gone unnoticed, and I am incredibly grateful for all that you do.”

“Senior Metal Bellows feels so fortunate to have collaborated with JVS; we truly cannot express our gratitude for them enough. For many of our team members, English is not their first language, which can make everything from understanding work instructions to communicating with managers exponentially more difficult. We partnered with JVS in hopes of easing that burden for those employees but having never offered a class like this before we were not sure how it would be received by our employees. However, every interaction with JVS – from the very first introductory meeting, right through to the end of year celebration was handled with professionalism, competence, and kindness. Each JVS team member was a pleasure to work with, but what impressed us even more was their attentiveness to our student participants and the respect and dignity with which they taught them. It can often be difficult, uncomfortable, and sometimes embarrassing to be an adult learner, but JVS’s empowering attitude towards adult learning kept our students engaged and enthused throughout the entire program-year. We were thoroughly impressed with JVS and we, along with our students, are eagerly anticipating the start of the next ESL session.”
Brittany Carter-Nicholson, Senior Metal Bellows
“The structure was phenomenal and was the best run job fair I have ever participated in. Everything was amazing, hats off to the JVS team for running such a great fair.”
Zachary Burl, Vinfen
“I loved meeting the staff at JVS and MassHire. Incredible people that are mission-oriented and focused on serving their clients.”

We recommend 15-16 weeks with class meeting twice per week for 90 minutes each day. However, we can adjust to make this longer or slightly shorter depending on employer’s preference. The minimum recommendation is 12 weeks. The number of total hours needed for adults to gain a level of English is 80 or more, so class may need to be offered more than once to see a full level gain.
We conduct pre and post testing to measure skills gains. We use a standardized test for speaking and listening comprehension (BEST Plus 3.0) that is accepted by the state as a measurement of English proficiency in non-native English-speaking adults. We use the pretest to group employees by level for the most effective teaching and use the posttest to report on gains.
Our content is contextualized to meet the basic communication needed for their work. In addition to improving basic conversation skills, we also cover safety protocol, strategies for making sure they understand, practice following directions and vocabulary directly related to their jobs.
