hello and welcome to the JVS early childhood education information session let me walk you through the early childhood education training program let me start off by telling you who we are JVS is a non-profit organization that has been around for a long time we are committed to serving our community by connecting you to good quality jobs one of the ways that we do this is by partnering with great employers who want to hire you so what is an early childhood educator these are professionals working in Early Learning and Development programs they work in places like Nursery schools day cares and preschools they work to care for young children infants and toddlers and practice many skills including classroom management snack time emotional needs and support for the children in their care the average pay rate for these type of positions are starting at 17 an hour with many making over 18. this job offers a parent friendly schedule working Monday to Friday with no weekends required there are many shifts that can be offered depending on where you get hired the important roles of an early childhood educator start with personal care for children ages 6 months to five years old each child has specific needs such as changing diapers and clothing toilet training for older children bottle feeding as well as meal and snack time and you will encounter children who will need comforting from emotional distress annual effectively diffuse conflicts between children by using positive employer-specific behavior interventions and you will also practice safe pickup and drop-off procedures now let’s talk about some of the administrative tasks of an early childhood educator you will assist the Lead Teacher in things like setting up and breaking down of classroom spaces tracking Daily Progress organizing activities writing lesson plans and you will also attend workshops and staff meetings now that you know some of the important roles of an early childhood educator let’s dive into the details of the JVS training program there are three different parts of the ECE program there is the JVS job Readiness training you will begin full-time police job placement with one of our employers and then we have Irving College which is an online three-credit college course on child growth and development in order to qualify for this program you must meet the following requirements you must be at least 18 years or older high school diploma GED or foreign diploma a desire and passion for working with infants and toddlers valid work authorization in the U.S intermediate or high level written and spoken English skills work full-time during the training program and work as an early childhood educator for at least 18 months and you must also successfully pass a background screening that consists of a full DCF background check a quarry a sorry fingerprinting and a drug test now let’s dive into more details about the JVS job Readiness training JVS job Readiness training is an exciting and fun time we get to spend together you are getting to know your fellow colleagues who will end up working in the same field as you it is a three-day course that consists of various workshops covering topics such as giving and receiving feedback interview prep and then on the third day you will have your Urban College orientation speaking of urban College Urban college is where you will complete a 10-week child growth and development course and it’s free this course is online and most of your coursework can be done on your own time join your Urban College orientation your professor will provide you with the materials assignments and specifics on what needs to be submitted and by what date you can complete the work on your own time to meet the deadline set by your professor during the 10 weeks you will also meet with your professor over Zoom three times on Saturday mornings the first class week five of the class and the final class and throughout the entire process your JVS team will provide support including reminders throughout the course job placement job placement is our number one priority upon being selected the JVS team will work with you immediately to finalize your resume and refer you directly to one of our many employers which are located throughout Greater Boston area we want to help you get hired as a full benefited teacher and you have to go through a screening process with the employer the screening process with the employer includes a quarry which is a criminal offender record investigation a story which is a sexual offender record investigation you will also have to go to fingerprinting DCF which is the Department of Children and Families does a full background check and you will also have a drug screening now
