Hi, I’m Ruth Kaplan of Brookline. I’ve spent decades as a community builder, working in several professional capacities in the Jewish and Israeli communities, as well as in the broader Greater Boston community.

My most recent employers have been the Israeli Consulate and Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP). I’m now at a pivotal juncture in my life, and it’s time for me to redirect my career path.

As a skilled networker and connector, I continue to serve as a strategic advisor to Jewish and Israeli nonprofit organizations and to facilitate speaking engagements about Israel. Since the pandemic, my passion for writing has grown, and I began contributing to JewishBoston.com. Before I knew it, I had more than 55 articles published!

To pursue this passion, I reached out to Dale Norman, a colleague in the Jewish community who is also a LinkedIn connection. I discovered that Dale is a career navigator at Jewish Vocational Service (JVS). There, she works with Jewish professionals in the Jewish Reemployment Program, known as JREP—a CJP partnership program. JREP offers free career coaching and resources to job seekers.

The most important aspect of my experience with JREP is the self-confidence I have gained through this coaching opportunity. Dale always believed in both my writing and networking skills and successfully encouraged me to believe in myself and my professional aspirations.

The philosophy of JREP is never to dictate…

About JVS and CJP’s Partnership
Since 2015, JVS assisted hundreds of Jewish individuals in their search for employment and stability by providing career coaching services through the Combined Jewish Philanthropies’ (CJP)  Anti-Poverty Initiative (API).

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, JVS developed strategies to assist Jewish individuals with their current employment needs. As part of this initiative, the Jewish Re-Employment Program (JREP) was created to provide enhanced service delivery to qualified Jewish clients and their immediate families. This initiative included the ability of JVS staff to make referrals to CJP’s Anti-Poverty Initiative, in addition to other JVS programs and the MassHire Downtown Boston Career Center.
